Bucerias

Bucerias (boo-sir-e-us) is an authentic and colorful beachfront town that offers a wonderful blend of Mexican culture and hospitality. It is located on the Bahia de Banderas just a half hour north of Puerto Vallarta and twenty minutes from the international airport.

Bucerias, meaning "place of the divers", is in the state of Nayarit and is a best known as a laid back small town in a world class tropical beach setting. The town is in the southern portion of a new government designated tourism development zone named Riviera Nayarit which comprises 100 miles of extraordinary coastline. Infrastructure initiatives include the recent opening of a major new marine development, Marina Riviera Nayarit, in the nearby town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle (wah-nah-cash-lay).

Eight miles of broad, flat and sandy beach are on the town’s doorstep. Unlike typical resort areas, the beach is un-crowded and peaceful . The beach extends from Nuevo Vallarta at the south to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle at the north.

Although a small town, Bucerias is a big on dining. Good restaurants abound and include a wide variety of options from fabulous taco stands to fine international dining. Fresh seafood, world-class pizza, authentic Mexican fare, gourmet Italian, tapas and wine bars, combine to offer something for every taste and mood. Nightlife is laid-back, but there are several live music venues, sports bars and fun happy hour spots, often right on the beach. As is traditional in Mexican towns, Bucerias features a zocalo (main square) and church which is the center of social and religious activities for residents. This colorful area highlights the wonderful spirit and warmth of the Mexican people. Activities in the immediate area include water sports and deep sea fishing, beach horseback riding, eco-tours such as jungle river kayaking and whale watching and a choice of 5 golf courses within a five to twenty minute drive. Exploring the Riviera Nayarit coast should include visits to the coastal villages of La Cruz, Punta de Mita, Sayulita and San Francisco, all within a half hour drive to the north.
